What’s new with Coast Communications? 

Our slogan for years has been “Ride the wave to the future with Coast Communications” 

Behind the scenes, we have been working very hard and investing millions of dollars to bring future internet speeds to your doorstep. The equipment is arriving, and installation will begin later this fall. While changing out our equipment will vastly improve our internet speeds, system reliability and capacity, it will also cause some interruptions in service. Think of it as if you were changing out your old plumbing for new plumbing. You can't use the faucet while the plumbing is being replaced. The same is with our upgrade. While our equipment is getting replaced there will be times of internet, television and phone outages. Some of this work will be completed at night to minimize the downtime that would have an impact on our customers. However, for safety reasons most of the equipment swap out will occur during daylight hours. We will be posting the timing of outages and areas affected on our local advertising channel as well as on our website and monthly updates in the Ocean Observer. 

Common questions,  

• What is getting changed out? All fiber optic node and amplifiers. 
• Why can't all work be one at night? Our crew's safety is a priority, and accidents happen while working in the dark. Additionally, many of the pedestals that house our equipment are at the property corners of homeowners which would be disruptive to their sleep or on roads/highways where we cannot legally work during nighttime unless during emergency situations. 
• What internet speeds can be expected after the upgrade is completed? Up to 4 Gbps download and up to 1 Gbps upload speeds.  
• Will there be future upgrades? Yes, this is only the first upgrade planned. Future upgrades will increase the upload speeds even more. However, the next upgrade will have minor impact on our customers since the equipment we are installing during the first upgrade is easily expandable, so the major equipment won't need to be physically replaced. 
• What other benefits will we see? Since the equipment replacement will greatly increase our capacity and service reliability. In addition, all internet packages will have unlimited data usage.  
• Will the cost of my internet go up? We will be realigning our packages to reflect the new speeds and unlimited data; there is no plan to raise our internet pricing at this time.
